Cameron LNG Celebrates Commercial Operations With Dedication Ceremony

Cameron LNG celebrated the opening of its liquefaction facility in Hackberry, La., with a dedication ceremony that brought together more than 300 community members, employees, partners and international dignitaries, along with several state and local elected officials, including Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards. Cameron LNG is one of five strategically located LNG projects being developed by Sempra LNG in North America.

“It is a great honor and privilege to celebrate the achievements of thousands of men and women who have worked tirelessly with passion and commitment so that we can connect American energy to all corners of the world," said Farhad Ahrabi, CEO of Cameron LNG.

Cameron LNG completed construction of its first liquefaction train earlier this year and shipped the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo to global markets in May. Train 2 and Train 3 are expected to begin producing LNG during the first quarter and second quarter of 2020, respectively.

“The Cameron LNG project’s completion adds to our momentum in building greater prosperity and opportunity for people all across the state of Louisiana,” Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards said. “Louisiana is setting the pace in U.S. LNG exports, and we are on track to increase our liquefaction and export capabilities in the next several years. We welcome Cameron LNG as a key contributor to this growing sector of our economy."

During the peak year of construction, Cameron LNG employed more than 11,000 highly skilled workers and during the years of construction, the company achieved more than 80 million hours without a single lost-time incident.

“One of our proudest achievements to date is our safety performance. It is best-in-class by any standard, in any company, at any location and on any mega project, and is very much in line with our company’s core value – safety above all,” added Ahrabi.

Among the attendees was the Ambassador of Japan to the United States, his Excellency Shinsuke Sugiyama, and the President of NEXI, Masafumi Nakada. During the ceremony, current and former Louisiana legislators, State Senators Dan Morrish, Ronnie Johns and Bob Hensgens, State Representative Ryan Bourriaque and the Mayor of Sulphur, Mike Danahay, presented Cameron LNG with a proclamation in commemoration of this important milestone.

Cameron LNG is jointly owned by affiliates of Sempra LNG, Total, Mitsui & Co., Ltd., and Japan LNG Investment, LLC, a company jointly owned by Mitsubishi Corporation and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK).

Once all three trains are operational, the facility will have an export capability of 12 million tonnes per annum of LNG or approximately 1.7 billion cubic feet per day.
