CEO Jeffrey Martin: Our Commitment to Delivering Energy with Purpose

Sempra’s COVID-19 Response

Jeffrey W. Martin, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Sempra Energy

Against the backdrop of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, our priority is to protect the health and safety of our employees, customers, partners and the communities we serve. Safety is a foundational value for Sempra and that is why we are working so hard to reduce the impact of coronavirus for all of our stakeholders. Now more than ever, we are focused on building resiliency in how we serve others to ensure we continue delivering energy to homes, businesses, medical facilities, first responders and so many more who depend on us.

Sempra is a values-led business that builds sustainable, highly resilient critical energy infrastructure. We understand the inherent responsibility that comes with this and remain committed to operate and provide uninterrupted service to our customers during this situation. To help ensure this happens, we have activated an enterprise-wide emergency task force to respond to the threat of the virus and mitigate risks across our family of companies. Our task force is battle-tested and I could not be more proud of our employees’ efforts to help ensure that we continue serving our customers and communities with the energy they need.

Sempra Energy and its family of companies have activated business continuity plans and continue working closely with local, state and federal authorities to ensure essential services are provided without interruption to customers and in accordance with relevant shelter-in-place orders.

“I can’t imagine a more important time to live our values, especially our commitment to do the right thing.”

We will continue to follow the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO), and local, state and federal authorities. We have implemented precautionary measures across our company including having employees work remotely where possible, restricting non-essential business travel, increasing facility sanitization and communicating proper hygiene protocols to employees. We have also engaged an infectious disease expert to ensure we are receiving critical advice to guide our actions during this health crisis.

I can’t imagine a more important time to live our values, especially our commitment to do the right thing. One of the ways we are doing that is by supporting our communities. We announced a Nonprofit Hardship Fund at the Sempra Energy Foundation that will donate up to $1.75 million to help small to medium-sized nonprofits in Southern California, Texas and Louisiana as they continue to serve critical needs related to COVID-19.

Sempra Energy’s long-term strategy remains strong and our spirit is indomitable. I am confident in our ability to serve all of our stakeholders throughout this situation and want to thank our employees for their dedication to delivering energy with purpose.
